Flap gates act as a check or backflow valve by allowing flow to pass in one direction only and are most commonly found at the end of a pipeline for back flow control, or to seal out pests and provide vector control. A typical use is with river outfalls, in tidal and marshy areas, and around lakes or reservoirs with fluctuating water levels.
Depending on their application, flap gates can be made of:
- Cast iron
- Stainless steel
- Aluminum
- Rubber
- Other Copolymers
